Nintendo implemented a rather cool feature with the Wii, the ability to play Gamecube games. Also, with the Virtual Console, you have the ability to play classics from consoles like the Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, NES, Sega Genesis, and even the golden oldies, the Neo-Geo and Turbo Grafx 16.
Of course, the Wii Nunchuck and controller don’t work for these titles, but then again, why would you want to play classics on anything other than a classic controller? Look on the side of your Wii, open the flap there, and you’ll see controller ports. Yep, you can play your Gamecube controller right in there. Want to play some of the Virtual Console titles? Treat yourself to a Wii Classic Controller, plug in, and play!
Want to go wireless with your Gamecube remote on the Wii? Simple. Plug in the controller receiver into the Wii and then you’ll wireless controller will be recognized by the console and will be ready to use. While Nintendo recommends their Wavebird controller for wireless Gamecube Wii gaming, third-party controllers also work, as long as the receiver fits into the Wii port.
Make sure you’re doing your classic gaming with the authentic controllers. Half the fun is feeling like you’re playing the classics.
